BACK 40 DISTILLERY

Back 40 Distillery started in 2015 By Lorne Haugen and Rick Lazaruik. Lorne's daughter being celiac pushed them into researching and learning about fermentation and the distillation of gluten free spirits. The decision was made to use Alberta Sugar Beet Sugar from Taber, Alberta as the base ingredient. Our facility is Gluten-Free, therefore we can say all of our products are 100% gluten free.
Why the name Back 40? Both Rick and Lorne had relatives and family friends that made their own liquor in the back field which was literally called the Back 40. In keeping with the idea of using simple and local ingredients they decided to use the name Back 40 Distillery. They were incorporated in February 2016 and opened in January 2017 in Camrose, Alberta.
Distillery Experience
When you visit Back 40 Distillery you will be greeted with a smiling face. Then be able to go for a tour of the Gluten-free facility and learn a little bit of the Sugar Beet industry located in southern Alberta. then you learn how we process our Distillate from start to finish (Field to Bottle). Get a chance to sample some products, Then you can stick around and try some of our signature cocktails we serve in the tasting room.
